1st Cebu Blog Camp 2010 : I was There!

23 May, 2010 | Athan | 7 Comments

I continued talking to the phone and repeatedly doing my opening and closing spiel..

My immediate superior, Boss Julia, was in her way doing her best to help me so I can attend the event. I really appreciate the help she did. It’s past 9AM already and I really lost my hope. Since, the account’s service level for the day did not passed, I was not excused. I just told myself that it’s okay. There will be other events that I can join that’ll be spearheaded by Cebu Bloggers Society.

cebu blog camp 2010Supposedly, the event will start at 8:00AM, with its registration at 7:30AM. But, I went there almost 1:00PM because my work ends at noon. I even had a hard time deciding if will catch up with the event since I am already very late. But, I took the courage to still attend!

Better late than never! I went to CAP Auditorium, CAP Complex, Jones, Cebu City, venue of the First Cebu Blog Camp 2010. I saw familiar faces from online and from the previous activities of the group that I had attended. I was too shy to enter the event area and luckily I saw Jorich that helped me with the registration and to get a bit of my freebies from the sponsors. I saw Edcel, a friend and workmate from a webhosting company that we’re working before. I got my name already signed on the sheet and my freebies. It’s time for me to listen to the speakers then.

WP Install : An SEO Perspective – Boosting your WordPress blog to its maximum potential , Optimizing your wordpress for SEO by Hans Koch, Click Eleven

Blogging : Personal Branding – How to make your blog stand out, Converting your blog into your own brand by Wilson Ng, NgKhai Technologies.

I missed Jannette Toral’s talk on Practical Tips in becoming an Influential Blogger. She is the founder of Digital Filipino and author of Blogging from Home. I first saw here last October 2008 on the first Digital Filipino Club and Bloggers Conference in Cebu that was held at PAGCOR in Waterfront Hotel.

It was a toss-coin attending the event. First, it’s because I filed a leave on the said date at work and was not approved. Second, I emailed my bosses about it but I never got any replies. It was then without hope to attend the first Cebu Blog Camp 2010. And third, I was very late.

But I was there!

Cebu Blog Camp

I am excited to attend the very first Cebu Blog Camp 2010!

I know that through this event, I will be able to learn a lot of things about blogging, most especially that it is themed as “Blogging, Expressions, and Opportunities.”

There are a lot of bloggers that will be there. I am sure to see friends from Cebu Bloggers Society that I am a part of before, as they are the event organizer. I was just not active that I was not able to track and participate to the activities and not able to see these friends. New and known bloggers will surely be attending. Speakers will be there to motivate and give tips and insights about the essence of blogging.

I’m hoping that my leave request at work will be granted. Else, I will really need to bug my boss before May 22, 2010, Saturday at CAP Auditorium, CAP Complex. Registration starts at 7:30AM. Blog Camp Starts at 8:00AM until 5:30PM.

20 March, 2010 | Athan | 1 Comment

Are you familiar with the Earth Hour?

Earth Hour 2010

Earth Hour was conceived by World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and The Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights.

Earth Hour is held on the last Saturday of March annually. On the following years, many countries and cities participated to such event. This is to remind us to conserve energy and to let us be aware of what we currently have as climate change nowadays.

Earth Hour Philippines, had been participating this phenomenal awareness campaign by doing simple action of turning off lights for an hour to deliver a powerful message on the need for climate change solutions.

Cebu City participated on the previous years and will continually support the Earth Hour Philippines. Let us all mark our calendars and participate to Earth Hour this Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 8:30 to 9:30 PM Philippine time. Let’s join with world and celebrate Earth Hour 2010!

Liquor Licensing Code of Cebu City

16 March, 2010 | Athan | 1 Comment

It was Monday night about 7PM in the evening. I was with younger friends roaming around F. Ramos Street near the Robinson’s Place at Fuente Osmeña Circle. We were looking for a place cheaper enough for a drinking session.

Oops! I am not the bad influence here because I’m not the one who suggest the drinking session activity right after a practice they a had as a band at Area001 Studio.

Since most of these younger friends I had were still at their 19′s and 20′s, I was the only one eligible to buy a liquor. Seems every place we went to were abiding the rules. They were asking for ID’s to verify if we were at the right age.

Dong! Strikto man gud ron. Kinahanglan man 21 up ra among baligyaan kay mao man gud ang naa sa city ordinance. Mag roving nya ba maka multa man gud mi“. (Boys! It’s really strict now. We only sell alcoholic drinks to 21 years old and above as what the Cebu City Ordinance states. It’s really hard if we will be caught and face the sanctions.)

We move on! Still looking for a place and still the same statements we got. We went to Route Stop, if my memory serves me right on the name of the place. The lady told us still about the Liquor Licensing Code of Cebu City.

Kung masakpan man gud mi makamulta man gud mi ug Php5,000.00.“,the lady explained. (If we get caught that we serve minors alcohol drinks, we are sanctioned to pay Php5,000.00).

Reading some news online, this is true! It even closed the place near University of San Carlos.

Bakak Resto Bar Ltd.’s most serious violation is selling alcoholic beverages to minors or those under 21 years old, which is prohibited under the Liquor Licensing Code of Cebu City. Secondly, they found out that it is operating without a business permit and a special permit to sell and serve liquor within a 100-meter radius from schools.

Personally, I would say that it is good to know that those places we went to were abiding to the said Liquor Ordinance of Cebu City. At least minors are now controlled to drinking sessions and are informed about it when they get to the places.
